Telomere Test

Are you interested in anti-aging? Well this test is for you. You can discover how fast you are aging with genetic telomere testing. Telomere testing reveals a window to your cellular age.

What are telomeres?

Telomeres are the protective structures located at the tips of chromosomes. Each time a cell replicates, its telomere becomes shorter. Telomeres normally shorten as a person gets older. By analyzing telomere length, individuals gain insights into health, lifespan, and susceptibility to diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease. The test is intended to reveal a person’s biological age. Whereas chronological age measures the number of years since birth, biological age is based upon a person’s physical and mental condition, and therefore expresses their true age. A person’s chronological age and biological age aren’t always the same. Telomeres are considered a good indication of a person’s biological age.

What effect does telomere length have on wellness?

Age adjusted telomere length is the best method to date to access biological age. Serial evaluation of telomere length is an indicator of how rapidly you’re aging relative to a normal population. Although you cannot stop your telomeres from shortening, you can slow them down through certain lifestyle strategies. Therapies directed at slowing the loss of telomere length may slow aging and age-related diseases.

Our Super Fast World has Consequences

The lifestyle of the “typical American” is not conducive to a young biological age. In fact, our high-speed lifestyle is directly related to accelerated biological aging and shortening of telomeres. An inflammatory diet increases oxidative stress and shortens telomeres faster. This includes refined carbohydrates, processed foods, sodas, artificial sweeteners, and trans fats. Fast food restaurants and pre-packaged/quick food options are steadily growing more available and these are the exact foods that most Americans reach for during their busy days. But these are the foods that accelerate aging and weight gain. Interestingly, weight gain, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle all promote the shortening of telomeres and accelerated aging. Most people are also under a high level of physical, chemical (toxins), and emotional stress. In vitro studies have shown that telomeres are highly susceptible to oxidative stress, which will shorten telomere length and enhance cellular aging. This is why it is imperative that we reduce all stress in our life if we want to enhance the quality and quantity of our life. Other factors that are linked to shortened telomere activity include micronutrient deficiencies, insulin resistance, lack of sufficient sleep, tobacco usage, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

Why Anti-Aging Telomere Testing

Shorter telomeres have been associated with metabolic abnormalities, obesity and several degenerative diseases including cancer, dementia and cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that telomere length is strongly associated with CVD risk, nutritional deficiencies (particularly antioxidants) and cancer, and testing may be a useful biomarker for risk assessment. From this test, NuVision Excel will know what needs to be done therapeutically to decrease the aging process and optimize the performance of your youthful genes.
